In many rural areas, particularly in developing regions of the world, traditional landline telecommunication infrastructure is either non-existent or extremely limited. Severe geographic and/or socioeconomic and political conditions coupled with low user density frequently makes the installation of landline infrastructure uneconomical or otherwise unfeasible. To satisfy the rapidly growing demands of extending modern voice, data, and video communications to users in widely dispersed rural environments, Harris MCS offers a number of rural telephony solutions.

From a central location, secondary nodes can be serviced via point-to-point microwave or spread spectrum radio connections. Wireless Local Loop (WLL) point-to-multipoint radio technology can be utilized to extend voice and data services from central and secondary nodes to individual users. This technology is extremely cost effective to implement, and offers a degree of security which can not be matched by landline infrastructure.

At the central location, the rural telephony systems can be interconnected with existing public telephony systems as well as with a Harris MCS VSAT installation, which will provide robust and affordable telecommunication services to users in the most remote and challenging circumstances. Harris MCS provides our customers with complete rural telecommunications solution, incorporating feasibility analyses, network design and engineering, equipment supply, installation, and commissioning, training, and continuing operational and maintenance support.
