The first OceanNet Buoy was deployed in August 2001 off the coast of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea at the depth of 2,300 meters. The system is being operated in partnership with IMC (International marine Centre) located in Oristano, Italy. Oceanographic and seismic data is transmitted from the buoy to the MCS Teleport from where it is distributed to users around the world.
