OceanNet operations are divided into four phases:

Mission Planning / Registration

Mission Planning consists of identifying the mission location, duration and sensors to be deployed for each mission, registering users, determining their Services Profiles, research and collecting the available survey data on the selected mission location. During this phase, we will work with you to define specific required services, design interface adapters and ensure that your experiment will provide the data you need, at the lowest possible cost.

Pre-Deployment Mission Integration

Pre-Deployment Mission Integration consists of conducting a mission site survey, selecting and assembling the appropriate components required for the selected mission site, and collecting, staging, integrating and testing of user sensors. In addition, logistical arrangements are made in terms of commissioning and scheduling of deployment vessels and manpower. During this time, we will test your experimental packages and sensors with the OceanNet equipment. This activity identifies any interface problems early, when they can be corrected, rather than after deployment.

Mission Deployment

Deployment consists of transporting the buoy, its components and all user sensors to the selected mission site, applying power, and initializing all components. After deployment and prior to leaving the mission site, OceanNet personnel perform post-deployment testing, and satellite communications performance is also confirmed. Specific deployment services are on a case by case basis, and could range from no support (you connect your sensors to our interface boxes without assistance) to OceanNet providing a complete deployment package.

Mission Operations

Once Deployment Operations are successfully completed, Mission Operations begin. OceanNet personnel monitor all deployed Buoys throughout the world continuously. You are now able to issue commands to and obtain status and data from your deployed sensors. You monitor the health and status of your sensors through the interactive Control and Status user interface. Each mission has a dedicated technical point of contact during operations. You may contact this person for questions, technical problems, and changes to Services Profiles. Should there be problems detected in buoy equipment, all users are notified through E-mail. They are also notified of corrective action being taken, and how their data may be affected.
